Khanyi Mbau is happy to be back on the set of Uzalo. She missed playing the role of feisty shoplifter Dinekile aka Lady Die. Her small-screen return was in true Lady Die style: she wore a sexy camouflage outfit and sporting red hair.
“It feels good to be back,” Khanyi tells DRUM. “I missed Lady Die’s costumes, the crazy hair, the outfits and the sassy attitude, “she says.
Dinekile is a sexy criminal that is unapologetic about her love for money. “Everyone knows I love playing exciting roles of powerful women,” she says.
“All the roles I have been getting lately have been exciting. The role I played in the film Red Room showed people another side of me and so was my character on Abomama Bomthandazo. I’ve made my mark as an actress now.”
Khanyi says playing Lady Die comes naturally for her because they have so much in common. “Lady Die is another part of me, she is driven and goes for what she wants,” Khanyi says.
“She gets bored easily and loves adrenalin and is a big dreamer.”
Although she has a lot in common with the SABC1 soapie character, Khanyi doesn’t see herself behind bars.
“Lady Die has been in and out of jail for petty crimes. I don’t believe in breaking the law. I make a good clean living, “she says.
Khanyi landed the role of Dinekile in April last year where she made her debut on Uzalo. Then she was headhunted for a short-term role but was called back after impressing the producers. “I don’t take any role I won’t nail. I give every role my all, that is why I was happy to return because I knew I had made my mark,” she says.
