SABC’s biggest soapies, Generations: The Legacy and Muvhango compete both on and off air!
On Friday, the series’ two lead actors Vuyo “Gaddafi” Dabula and Gabriel “Chief Azwindini” Temudzani took to the boxing ring at Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban.
Their fight was part of the South African Boxing Awards and was declared a draw at the end of two rounds.
But in the audience, most women were screaming Gaddafi’s name. Their choice seemed to have less to do with the number of punches Gaddafi dished out than his six pack. They screamed and jumped out of their chairs. “Go Gaddafi, go! We love your six pack,” shouted the women.
The first round saw Chief Azwindini dishing out some strong punches to Gaddafi’s face and body. But Gaddafi covered his face.
During the second round, Gaddafi landed a left punch that left Chief Azwindini’s mouth bleeding.
Zoliswa Nomeva (31) said she drove all the way from Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape to watch the boxing. “I was not going to attend, but when I heard about their fight, I left everything because I couldn’t afford to miss the opportunity to see my hunks take each other on,” said Zoliswa.
Boxing SA chairwoman Muditambi Ravele said they got Gaddafi and Azwindini in the ring to promote the awards. “Now we are receiving calls from companies showing an interest in boxing.”
Gaddafi was trained by former world champion Jan Bergman, while Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela trained Chief Azwindini.
