SOMIZI MHLONGO and fiance Mohale Motaung’s wedding promised the glitz and glam of a Hollywood movie. But that was before the plug was pulled . . . Due to a lack of enough funding!
These were the words of insiders, who said that the radio and TV personality’s “wedding of the year” had suffered a financial setback.
Sunday Sun late last year reported the couple had planned the doo to take place during the Easter weekend. According to an insider, the wedding hadn’t been cancelled but allegedly postponed.
Asserted the informant: “The wedding has been moved to a future date because of the costs involved in pulling off a well-orchestrated spectacle of this size. Somizi wanted to use the Nelson Mandela Bridge, which costs an arm and a leg and is obviously not within financial reach at this time. Also, MultiChoice wouldn’t foot the bill for it.”
Somizi and Mohale have become one of our favourite celebrity couples. The media personalities got engaged in 2017 and since then, fans have been waiting for their big day.
Somgaga, as Somizi’s affectionately known, is rumoured on the hunt for a new venue that “doesn’t cost an arm and a leg”. Another source said Somizi was bent on concluding the traditional wedding first.
Said the mole: “He told some people that instead of a white wedding, the couple was thinking about a traditional wedding first and was yet to set a date for the white wedding.”
The third source said something didn’t add up about the whole wedding. Claimed the informant: “They’re still hard at work raising funds. He’s still shopping for sponsors. I think he’s either working hard on his funds, or maybe there’s more than just the budget story.”
The fourth informant said Somizi was under the impression sponsors would flock to fund his doo because of the size of his brand.
“Yes, Somizi’s a powerful brand, but the City of Joburg won’t close the bridge for free, and they really don’t need exposure for the Mandela Bridge. But he’ll eventually get married. Somizi’s a fighter and survivor. He’ll probably come up with an over-the-top wedding idea.”
When called for comment, Mohale said: “If you want to write a story, write a story but don’t call me for that. Don’t call about things that don’t concern you.”
Somizi refused to comment and started swearing and cursing when the reporter spoke to Mohale. He was heard in the background saying “f**k you, wena”.
