Mzansi men had better enjoy what’s left of their screen time with Getty.
The Generations: The Legacy actress (real name Andisiwe Dweba) has been shown the door by the SABC1 soapie’s producers.
Getty was recently told that her contract would not be renewed.
“The scriptwriters took the decision to let go of the character. They are trying to keep the show authentic,” Generations: The Legacy publicist Garaatwe Mokhethi said.
And rumours suggest the sexy actress’s got the chop because the producers felt her role was no longer relevant.
Said the informant: “Producers kept her role for the past few months despite seeing that it wasn’t adding any value.
“They even held back-to-back meetings to discuss what to do about Getty’s role because it was clear that the writers had reached the dead end for her the character.
“They then decided to cut the character to make way for the new faces.”
Sunday Sun was the first publication to report that Thuli Phongolo (who plays Namhla in the soapie) was also leaving the show amid rumours of diva tendencies.
Another source said: “The producers recently staged auditions for up-and-coming actors and actresses.
“They felt the show was no longer that attractive with the same old faces. They had to make changes to attract new viewers. The competition during the prime-time slot is big, so the producers are aware that they have to up their game.”
But viewers can still look forward to seeing Getty in some of the coming episodes.
“In terms of the time, as when she will be saying goodbye to our screens, well that will not be happening soon since she is still shooting,” said Garaatwe.
Andisiwe refused to comment and hung up the phone when Media contacted her.
