It’s been a few years since Bonang Matheba shocked Mzansi after resigning from her Metro FM radio show, The Front Row. Her resignation came immediately after she hosted one show with Lerato Kganyago. LKG’s addition was part of the changes that take place on radio once a year.
Lerato recalled that day as her “darkest moment” on radio.
Speaking to Mo Flava and Masechaba Ndlovu on The Drive on Metro FM, she said: “I think my darkest moment, and I’m not tying to blame anyone, but it was the day when I actually did the show Bonang on that day, and I got blamed for her leaving the show.”
She explained that she wept for days. “Cause I said, ‘but all I’m doing, God, is doing what you have given me to the table, what you’ve tasked me with’.” She added that she asked what she was being punished for.
The Project Runway SA host also revealed that in the beginning, it was “great”.
“But it was very tense… And I thought, ‘you know what another teething phase, we’ll be okay by tomorrow’. But, uhm, it was just awkward, man. But I just came ‘listen, I’m just here to do my job’.”
But there’s no bad blood. “I have so much respect for her, she has her own reasons why she left.” Lerato also shared that she gave Bonang some advice on that day. “I said, ‘Bonang, don’t you ever, ever, ever in your life make emotional decisions, ever… Think about it, I know you’re not happy with what has happened, whatever it is, I don’t want details. But don’t make emotional decisions, this can actually work’.”
Well then, it’s clear that things didn’t work out and Bonang ended up leaving the show. However, Lerato has since found her voice on radio and is having a great time hosting The Bridge alongside Dineo Ranaka.
