South Africa’s most loved and watched television station, the SABC is clearly adhering to its mandate of trimming the unnecessary fat from its food chain. Recently it was announced that two of the most popular television shows, Uzalo and Skeem Saam will no longer have its episodes published by the station on YouTube.
The SABC has signed a new licence agreement with another live streaming service called Viu, which is operated by PCCW Media and Vuclip. The episodes of Uzalo and Skeem Saam will continue being published until the 28th February 2019 on YouTube, as Viu will now thereafter own exclusive rights to some of the shows from the SABC.
The channel is clearly aggressively pursuing various measures of preserving the stations funds therefore the cancellation of these two shows from YouTube proves to be one of the sensible solutions as Viu will officially rock the South African markets soon.
American soapie, The Bold and the Beautiful is recently one of the shows that the SABC has decided to pull off air. This news was not entirely welcomed by the audience because some had become somehow attached to its riveting and daring storylines.
Staunch viewers of Uzalo and Skeem Saam will most likely have a hard time catching up to their favourites because YouTube was a more convenient platform for them.
